Holiday season has started! 

As a daughter of a baker I grew up with a lot of delicious food during the holidays. My sisters and I can eat cake, pie and sweets whenever we want and as much as we want (for free, very tempting..). Especially during Christmas season it is really hard to stay healthy for me, because of all the new products during the December month. To avoid weight gaining I have come up with some tips on how I can stay as healthy as possible with all these delicious food and sweets. Ofcourse I wanted to share these ‘Tips to stay healthy during the holidays’ with you!

1. Water is your friend!
Drink one big glas of water before every meal. The water provides a sense of fullness, so not as much food is needed to reach the point of satiety. 

2. Keep tempting foods out of reach.
Don’t buy the delicous tempting candy a few weeks before it actually is Christmas. As the old saying goes ‘out of sight, out of mind!’

3. Buy healthy snacks instead
Also, shopping on an empty stomach is a bad idea! Go to the store with a full belly and make good choices. Planning what you are going to eat for the week and shopping accordingly is also  a great way to make healthy eating easy. 

4. Write it down!
If you are writing down everything you eat you are less likely to overeat. There are many free apps out there to track your daily food intake. ‘Mijn eetmeter’ is my personal favorite. It really helps keep you accountable for what you’re putting in your body.

5. Stay active
Stay Active! You may not be able to keep up with your regular workouts but make a point to at least get in 30 minutes of activity a day. Even going for a short walk will make a huge difference in your weight. There are a lot of simple exercises you can practice in your backyard or in your living room, no gym required.  Make the time!

One or two days of indulging throughout the holidays isn’t going to sabotage your diet, as long as you get back on track the next day.

From the 30th of September untill the 5th of October I went to Madrid, Spain, for my Fashion Minor.  What a beautifull city! 

Together with my school (Stenden, Leeuwarden) we visited the most beautiful spots of Madrid and ofcourse the Prado- and Reina Sofia Museum. 

Here, you can see a picture of the Royal Palace of Madrid. If you’re planning a trip to Madrid, you should really visit the Palace and watch all the beautifull rooms inside! Every room has his own design and golden details.

My boyfriend is a big fan of Real Madrid, so ofcourse he wanted to go with me. The first days we stayed in Hotel Madrid Plaza Espana by Melia, a very beautifull hotel with an amazing view! If you consider to stay there you should really book a room at the 11th floor. The last days we stayed at Hotel Santa Dominigo, which has a terrace and swimmingpool on their rooftop! 

 If you’re such a shopaholic and foodlover like me, you would LOVE Madrid! It really is a shopping walhalla! All the big shops are located at the Gran Via. Probably, Gran Vía is the most famous and popular touristic street in Spain. It was mostly dedicated to entertainment with many cinemas, theaters, musicals, night clubs and bars. 

Looking for some nice restaurants in Madrid? You should go to Tommy Mel’s, where you can get the delicious famous Freak Shakes. There are a lot, lot, lot of fastfood restaurants where you can eat. But if you want to start your day with a healthy breakfast you shoud really go to Le Pain Quotidien. They are located in the center of Madrid, the Gran Via. Le Pain Quotidien hand has the best breakfast if you like fresh fruit, yoghurt and fresh made juices.
